ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

"Go beyond small to the place where no message is being given. Start there. Let small be the first of the pleasures to come."
—Steve Paxton

What is the fluid body? What is a fluid perspective on fascia, bones, breath or structured movement? We all know or it is told to us the body consists 80% of water but is this or can this be an embodied and physical reality both in locomotion as well as in the experience of oneself? In this workshop we will explore theoretical knowledge and concepts with our bodies and in motion to embody fluid form as well as build towards and enjoy fluidity in motion. We will explore sequential movement of larger chunks towards smaller and smaller increments, feeling tissue layers glide and pull on each other as well as connecting to the different fluid systems and functions in the body.

The Axis Syllabus is a somatic approach to dance and movement techniques and a collection of knowledge for learning, researching and experiencing movement. This includes moving with anatomical relationships, physics, bio-tensegrity, ongoing multi-disciplinary research, movement analysis and transmission. An Axis Syllabus class aims to create a collaborative learning environment and effective space for personal research.

BIOGRAPHY

Kira Kirsch is a movement artist, community organizer, experiential researcher, mother and initiator/curator born in East-Berlin. After seven years living and dancing in San Francisco she now works and lives with her family in Berlin as residents of LAKE Studios - an artist-run dance, production and performance place. She is deeply invested into creating and shaping spaces for people to experience, learn about and sensitize their mind-body-movement continuum. She has pioneered, taught and continuously researched through the lens of the Axis Syllabus (AS) for more than 20 years and has established dance research communities in Brussels, San Francisco and Berlin. Her work is also deeply influenced by her studies in Moving Alchemy/Sarah Shelton Mann, Biodynamic Craniosacral Studies, Mind in Motion (Nita Little), NVC and BMC. As a curator she collaborated on “SENSING IN festival”, mov*ed-a peer exchange platform for movement educators and has established a regular educational program under the name of Movement Artisans in Berlin. Kira is invited internationally to both contemporary and CI festivals and teaches at professional dance institutions. Recent artistic projects have been “Many Lives” with choreographer Jorge de Hoyos and “(dis)comfort behaviours” with actress Anneke Schwabe.

ENDLESS PRACTICE STUDIO #2
4-WEEK SERIES OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE CLASSES

THURSDAYS | 16.30 - 18.00

Center PREMIK, Neubergerjeva 9, Ljubljana

DATES

March 28 - April 18, 2024

ABOUT THE CLASSES

The 4-week series of contemporary dance classes sources from the regular dance practice of Wild Birds. Within the setting of a closed group we will devote ourselves to continuous training and immersion into specific anatomical and body-related topics. We will work on honing the ability to finely perceive our own structures and from there build up dynamic dance material and solo/partner improvisation.

The orientations of the Wild Birds dance practice are reclaiming a soft, movable body that effortlessly traverses through space and morphs its orientation in it, exploring principles of efficient use and transmission of kinetic energy in motion and thus training an adaptable, responsive 3D dance body, capable of articulated expression of details, dynamic virtuosity and pure enjoyment of dance.

Based on demand, the practice will be continued in further series.

WHO ARE THEY FOR?

The series of classes is aimed for those who are interested in a regular, more continuous practice and training of the dance body through researching body structures and anatomy. The 6-class module will be held for a closed group, registration is only possible for the entire series, except for the option of a drop-in visit only in the first session (February 15). In this way, the consistent group will have a chance to keep building on previously visited topics and movement-dance materials from one class to another, and to go deeper into shared embodied experiences.

The classes are suitable for everybody who wants to dance, is interested in focused movement explorations, in anatomy approach to movement, in deepening the awareness of one’s body and connection with it, in expanding one’s own movement vocabulary. The level will be adjusted to the experience of registered participants.

PRICE

4-class series | 50 / 45* eur
drop in (possible in the first session only - Mar 28th) | 19 eur / 14* eur

ARCHITECTURE OF SOFTNESS
SERIES OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE WORKSHOPS

UPCOMING DATES

June 8, 2024

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The Architecture of Softness is a compound of different somatic and dance interests that weave together in the dance practice of Wild Birds collective. In the workshop we will focus on reclaiming a soft, movable body that effortlessly traverses through space and morphs its orientation in it. We will be looking at principles of efficient use and transmission of kinetic energy in motion and training an adaptable, responsive body. Through focusing on a sensorial experience and tuning into our internal architecture we will establish a sensorial base, from which we are going to transfer acquired movement qualities into the context of external space, which becomes spherical, up and down interchangeable. In this way we are going to enter into more complex movement patterns and dynamic dance material.
