ENDLESS PRACTICE STUDIO #1
6-WEEK SERIES OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE CLASSES

THURSDAYS | 16.30 - 18.00

Center PREMIK, Neubergerjeva 9, Ljubljana

DATES

February 15 - March 21, 2024

ABOUT THE CLASSES

The 6-week series of contemporary dance classes sources from the regular dance practice of Wild Birds. Within the setting of a closed group we will devote ourselves to continuous training and immersion into specific anatomical and body-related topics. We will work on honing the ability to finely perceive our own structures and from there build up dynamic dance material and solo/partner improvisation.

The orientations of the Wild Birds dance practice are reclaiming a soft, movable body that effortlessly traverses through space and morphs its orientation in it, exploring principles of efficient use and transmission of kinetic energy in motion and thus training an adaptable, responsive 3D dance body, capable of articulated expression of details, dynamic virtuosity and pure enjoyment of dance.

Based on demand, the practice will be continued in further series.

contemporary dance | anatomy of movement | 3D orientation in space | dynamic movement | learning through the body

WHO ARE THEY FOR?

The series of classes is aimed for those who are interested in a regular, more continuous practice and training of the dance body through researching body structures and anatomy. The 6-class module will be held for a closed group, registration is only possible for the entire series, except for the option of a drop-in visit only in the first session (February 15). In this way, the consistent group will have a chance to keep building on previously visited topics and movement-dance materials from one class to another, and to go deeper into shared embodied experiences.

The classes are suitable for everybody who wants to dance, is interested in focused movement explorations, in anatomy approach to movement, in deepening the awareness of one’s body and connection with it, in expanding one’s own movement vocabulary. The level will be adjusted to the experience of registered participants.

PRICE

6-class series | 75 / 70* eur
drop in (possible in the first session only - Feb 15th) | 19 eur / 14* eur

FALLING IN GRACE z Antoineom Ragotom_cov

FALLING IN GRACE with Antoine Ragot

3-day movement intensive

FEB 2 - 4, 2024 | Plesni teater Ljubljana

teaching | Antoine Ragot

organised by | Wild Birds IDM

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This week-end is designed by Antoine, to create a collaborative and supportive space, to journey in a colourful environment of somatic experiences, movement sequences, body analysis and scores to build awareness of one’s own body and that of one’s partner for the practice of moving solo or in contact improvisation.

Antoine is intending to address more specifically the phenomenon of falling.

Falling is a basic human experience, endlessly returning and daily condition in our gravitational field. We are so used to it, we don't notice anymore when it is happening.

Antoine will provide reflections to think critically about the stereotypes and negative associations we spontaneously attach to falling. He will detail basic building blocks for falling practices, offer concepts, sensory experience, and frames with low (and adjustable) risk and impact for practising and repeating in solo and partnered situations.

Expect information about the body structure and its relation to movement potential or limitation, based on research made within the Axis Syllabus system.

The Axis Syllabus is an interdisciplinary research project looking into general principles of human movement underlying any physical activities.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This workshop is suitable for any level of experience.

It is an opportunity to engage with fellow humans, discover and challenge oneself and develop trust, adaptability and weight sharing skills.

The workshop will be mostly in English but translation in Slovene will be welcome and interwoven if needed.

BIOGRAPHY

Antoine was born in Poitiers, France and is now based in Berlin, Lake Studios, where he currently runs a yearly movement education program (www.movementartisans.net) together with Kira Kirsch.

Today, Antoine brings many years of teaching contact improvisation, sports, and early motor development to his fastidious bent for research and sharing of the Axis Syllabus, of which he is a certified teacher and certifier.

He is involved in various dance communities, educational initiatives (including a collective project for movement educators (www.movementeducators.net) and teaches and crafts dances, as well as researches and studies movement.

PHENOMENAL BODIES with Kira Kirsch

DANCE TRAINING & IMPROVISATION AS EXPERIENTIAL RESEARCH PRACTICES

3-day axis syllabus workshop

FEB 3 - 5, 2023 | Plesni teater Ljubljana

teaching | Kira Kirsch

organised by | Wild Birds IDM in co-production with Plesni teater Ljubljana

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The Axis Syllabus offers ways and sustainable patterns into learning safe falling reflexes, sequential movement, defining individual range of motion and joint parameters, preventing injury or enhancing kinetic efficiency to name a few topics. These practices can be applied to dance and all other movement related fields.

In her classes Kira creates scenarios for textured and embodied dancing and a learning environment where your body can self-organize and thrive. Movement material, sensations, coordination and perspectives of anatomy and biomechanics are proposed to explore. The information ideally self-seeds into resilient and adapted movement fitting your body and environments as well as open new curiosities for autonomous study and practice. In her pedagogical work Kira celebrates learning through movement and dancing together.

THESE LEGS WERE MADE FOR DANCING

AXIS SYLLABUS*-INFORMED CONTEMPORARY DANCE WORKSHOP

SVŠGUGL, Kardeljeva ploščad 28a, Ljubljana

January 29, 2022

session 1 | 10.00 - 12.30
lunch break
session 2 | 14.30 - 17.00

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

In this workshop we will focus specifically on the anatomy of our feet and legs in connection with the rest of our body to understand and sense better their role and potential in moving dynamically. We will be exploring anatomy through embodied experience to understand how the forms and shapes of our structures translate functionally in movement.

We will take a closer look at the feet and knees to understand alignment of the joints of the leg. We will be training through dancing towards dynamic stability of the legs and energy efficient way of moving, learning tools to navigate our architecture in movement, utilising the feet and legs as a pathway to channel the force of gravity. Through fine coordination we will be expanding our ability to sense more finely and last but not least expand our movements into joyful dynamic dancing.

Working language will be English.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

We will take a look at the structures of the body, trying to understand their design and how we can by respecting movement principles that follow that design, achieve greater efficiency in movement and train virtuosity that is kind to our system.

We will be discovering the lived anatomy of the human body through movement as we take time to sense finely, engage in guided movement explorations, practice specific movement patterns and sequences and dance fully, both on the floor and in verticality. We will work with focused attention as well as letting go, enjoying the speed, dynamism and group energy in dancing.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

The workshop is aimed at everybody who wants to dance, is interested in focused movement explorations, in anatomy approach to movement, in deepening the awareness of one’s body and connection with it, in expanding and reconfiguring one’s own movement practice.
